SWALLOWS AND THEIR NESTS
Swallows on our farm build nests out of spring mud, plant material, chicken feathers and other natural materials. The birds hold the mud or materials in their beaks and fly back to the place where they have decided to build their nest.
The location could be outside or even inside a building as shown here. If they have picked a busy spot, they will fly away from the nest to distract intruders or even “dive bomb” them and then return to their nests when the strangers have left the area.
